Sitting atop the Big 12 standings with the rest of the league’s teams in chase mode, No. 3 Kansas begins the second half of its conference schedule by welcoming Iowa State into Allen Fieldhouse for a rematch. The Jayhawks (20-2 overall, 8-1 Big 12) already handled the Cyclones (13-8, 4-5) in Ames, Iowa, and aim for a season sweep.
Weird to see Kansas facing a team that's not ranked inside of the top 10. Iowa State enters on a two-game losing streak and 2-4 record on the road this season.
For those inclined, Kansas is a 10-point favorite today. Over/Under set at 155.
What's the big storyline today? Obviously it's a matchup of great guard play, but I'll go with Dwight Coleby and Mitch Lightfoot. Carlton Bragg had, arguably, his best game of the season against Iowa State a few weeks ago. With a big advantage in the post, we'll see if Coleby or Lightfoot can showcase their skills on offense.
I did see Malik Newman walking around earlier. He missed last game because he was sick (but Tweeted during it).
I also saw former KU radio announcer Bob Davis walking around Allen Fieldhouse today.
Iowa State starters: Monte Morris, Naz Mitrou-Long, Matt Thomas, Deonte Burton and Merrill Holden.
Players are on the court. Haven't seen Carlton Bragg, who is still under indefinite suspension, in the arena today.
Udoka Azubuike still has a pretty big hard cast on his injured wrist. For those wondering if he could potentially return this year, can't imagine it.
Steve Prohm and Bill Self share a laugh when they meet at midcourt pregame.
National anthem over. Starting lineups time.
Referees today: Mike Stuart, Gerry Pollard and Darron George.
Once again, Marlins Man is in attendance at Allen Fieldhouse.
Some quality Spongebob signs in the student section today.
