The Kansas basketball program has only made four trips to Morgantown, West Virginia, all of them coming since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12. Each of the Jayhawks’ previous three visits to WVU Coliseum have ended with a loss. No. 2 KU (18-1 overall, 7-0 Big 12) looks to reverse that trend against No. 18 West Virginia (15-4, 4-3) Tuesday night.
What's the big storyline tonight? The easy answer would be turnovers for both schools. But we try to go against the grain here. So I'll pick Lagerald Vick. He's either extremely hot or extremely cold when shooting the ball. But the Mountaineers are susceptible to put-backs, and that's where Vick can make a big difference, along with Josh Jackson, Landen Lucas and Carlton Bragg. I'm interested to see how hard Vick crashes the glass to create additional offense.
Also if you didn't see it below, my favorite line on WVU's heckling guide is about Svi Mykhailiuk, "No, we don't know how to pronounce his name either."
For those inclined, WVU is a 3.5-point favorite tonight. Over/Under set at 159.5.
WVU starting lineup: Jevon Carter, Daxter Miles, Nathan Adrian, Esa Ahmad and Elijah Macon.
Josh Jackson on KU radio confirms that he travels on the road with his own bottle of Frank's Red Hot Sauce. The more you know...
Bill Self on KU radio: I don't think the K-State loss by any stretch was a shocker. It was a coin flip game.
Self: The way they are going to press us tonight is the Baylor game. It's about as relentless as we've seen.
Self: They'll play like a wounded animal tonight, like they usually do against us. But that's our league. Our league is hard.
More Self on Jevon Carter: He's always been the alpha dog to me. The way Huggs uses his player, nobody is going to average 18 points. But he won the game against us 2 years ago. Miles is a really good player. Phillip off the bench. All of them have been thorns in our side.
Self on key of the game: Rebounding. They are one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country. They send five guys to the glass. If they press, we have to make them pay by not having turnovers and make them have rotational rebounding.
First time Dick Vitale announced KU this season?
Turnover and offensive foul on Frank Mason.
