Big 12 title game blog: Kansas vs. West Virginia
-
Appearing in the program’s 13th Big 12 title game, top-seeded Kansas (26-7) looks to defeat West Virginia (24-9) for the third time this season. A three-game sweep of the Mountaineers, who have led by double figures in each of the previous two matchups, would give the Jayhawks their 11th postseason championship since the Big 12 expanded from the Big 8 in the 1996-97 season.

Last night Jevon Carter was asked about the matchup between he and Devonte' Graham tonight for the Big 12 postseason championship. Here's Carter's response:
It ain't about that. It is West Virginia versus Kansas tomorrow. It is five guys on that court at one time. I hate when y'all try to make it a one-on-one match-up. It's never about that. It's 5 guys out there on the floor at a time. It's West Virginia against Kansas.

This is WVU's 3rd straight appearance in the Big 12 title game. The Mountaineers' seniors are 0-2 the past 2 seasons.Jevon Carter on what playing on this stage for a 3rd straight year means:
It means a lot. We want to go out with a bang. It's our last year. If we win tomorrow, we can hang a banner. It's everything we dreamed of. We're going to give it our all tomorrow night and we're going to see what happens.

Asked Mitch Lightfoot last night about how he and Silvio De Sousa are adjusting to life without Udoka Azubuike and their new roles. He said they were "all right" vs. Okla. St. He called the game vs. K-State a "step back" and said they need to make progress tonight vs. WVU.
“I’m gonna take the fall for this one," LIghtfoot said. "That was my bad. I’ve gotta fix some mental mistakes I was making and can’t have so many dumb fouls.”

Bob Huggins was asked last night about getting a third crack at KU after losing the 2 matchups in the regular season and what the Mountaineers need to do differently.
"Score more points than them. I don't know. We have played pretty well. They have played pretty well. It's been two pretty well-played games. I don't know. Make another shot, maybe, get a free throw, something."
